With the recent signing of Nelson Cruz to a 4-year, $57-million deal, the Seattle Mariners don’t believe they are finished. According to Bob Dutton of The News Tribune, Nelson Cruz could be their right fielder, but due to the lack of his defensive capabilities, the M’s see the slugger as their designated hitter. Supposedly, the club’s next task is to find a right fielder. Dutton also adds that Torii Hunter and Alex Rios could be those players in which the Mariners would be interested. If the Mariners were to sign either one of them, I don’t see it long-term.
There is absolutely no reason why the Mariners should sign yet another top outfielder this offseason. They have a plethora of options at this point, they could go sign a free agent or stick to their roster and give someone like James Jones more opportunities.
The Mariners continue to keep tabs on Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as Justin Upton of the Atlanta Braves.
