After signing right-handed slugger Nelson Cruz to a 4-year deal, the Mariners have hopped right back into the free agency market, expressing “serious” interest in outfielder Melky Cabrera. The news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Cabrera stated earlier in the offseason that he would prefer to play in the East Coast, but a source has said that Cabrera would consider a move back to the west coast.
Cabrera, 30, had a great year with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014, the former All-Star hit for a .301 average with 16 homers and 73 RBI.
The Mariners have been in the market for a solid 2-hole hitter to slide in between Austin Jackson and Robinson Cano, and Cabrera completely fits the bill.
