The 2015 season was one full of disappointment for the Seattle Mariners. They went into the year with some experts predicting them to make the World Series on the heels of an impressive 87-win season in 2014. Unfortunately the 2015 team did not come close to reaching those expectations. The Mariners finished with a 76-86 record. Team President Kevin Mather decided that changes were needed. He fired general manager Jack Zduriencik and manager Lloyd McClendon. He brought in former Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto.
Dipoto wasted little time before trying to improve the ballclub. He added pitching depth and a team full of players with a higher floor. Overall, the next iteration of the team, as crafted by Dipoto, will be more athletic. As the Mariners call a big ballpark with a large outfield home, that may not be a bad idea.
Still, questions remain regarding the Mariners chances to bring playoff baseball back to the Pacific Northwest in 2016.
